September is a bittersweet month for kids. Summer is over, and it’s time to hit the books again. The Boot recently asked some of your favorite country stars about their fondest memories of back-to-school time.

Carolyn Dawn Johnson: “My favorite thing about going back to school was going shopping for supplies and clothes. I remember that we got to pick three new outfits, and they basically had to last the year unless we grew out of them! Then getting all the new pencils, erasers, scribblers, etc. It was awesome. You’d fill your book bag with all this nice, new stuff … loved it!”

Carolyn Dawn Johnson has found two new loves to compete with her first love, music. The Canadian-born songbird has become a mother twice since releasing her last album, 2008′s ‘Love and Negotiation.’ But somehow in between diaper duty and preparing for the birth of her second child, she found time to pour her heart and soul into new music for her fourth studio album, ‘Love Rules,’ released this month.

“Keeping up with being a writer and making a record and trying to be the best mom I could was tiring,” she tells The Boot. “It was pretty tough, but when I got close to the end of [making this album] and all of the songs and the products were coming back all done, I got excited and emotional about it again.”

At the end of February, singer-songwriter Carolyn Dawn Johnson will give birth to her second baby who will join big sister, 16-month-old Abigail. And although she’s not complaining, Carolyn says strangely enough, the second time has been harder than the first.

“I feel more tired [with this one],” Carolyn tells The Boot. “I’ve gained a few more pounds, and even though I haven’t had any morning sickness with either, I’ve just been exhausted with this one. I also have had back issues that I didn’t have with the first. You’d think it’d be easier this time around, but it really has been a little tougher — could have something to do with the fact that I have a little one who needs a lot of attention!” Read the rest of this entry »
