CALGARY, July 15, 2013 /CNW/ – Following the unprecedented flooding in Southern Alberta, some of the biggest names in music are joining forces with business leaders and the Province of Alberta to stage the Halo High Water Benefit Concert August 4, 2013 and raise money in support of the Calgary Foundation’s Flood Rebuilding Fund. The televised performance and telethon will feature an all-star roster of musical talent.

The Halo High Water Benefit Concert will take place on Sunday, August 4th at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium inCalgary. The performances will broadcast on CBC TV and Radio and Aboriginal Peoples Television Network in conjunction with a telethon that will enable all Canadians to donate and support the people and communities impacted by the flooding. CBC Music will also broadcast on-demand video of the full show and individual artist’s performances.

“Whether it’s rural communities like High River, urban neighborhoods in Calgary, or the southern Alberta First Nations, thousands of people have been impacted by the flooding. However, as with any great tragedy, the power of the human spirit is evident in the way communities and individuals have rallied to support those that need it most,” said Tom Jackson, Halo High Water Benefit Executive Producer and Host. “Everyone associated with the Halo High Water Benefit Concert is greatly honoured to provide an evening where the entire country can come together to show our support and celebrate the incredible community spirit that has been demonstrated in Alberta and acrossCanada.”

CDJ ENJOYS CMA MUSIC FEST WITH FANS

Carolyn Dawn Johnson opened the Chevy Roadhouse Stage on Thursday afternoon to fans from around the world. Right in the center of it all, the Chevy Roadhouse Stage was in a great location for fans to find Carolyn – they just had to follow that beautiful songbird voice. “I found out later that the CMA guide book had me down for 1:30 instead of opening the stage like it was always planned for, so I was thankful that the fans recognized my voice and came anyway!” Johnson told CMJ.com.

Immediately after the performance, she quickly went over the the Team Cocktail Booth to sign autographs. The booth was filled with fans and CDJ music was being spun by the DJ. CDJ stayed as long as she could and did her best to meet with every single fan. “I had a sweet day performing and loved all the faces, singing, swaying and dancing, Thank you,” was her final post on Facebook and Twitter with great memories of another CMA Music Fest.

BOBBY KARL WORKS CMA MUSIC FEST, DAY 3

 • June 7, 2013

Is it just me, or is there more music than ever at this year’s CMA Music Festival?

I took my first tour of the “campus” on Thursday afternoon (June 6), and it seemed like just about every ten steps I took, I caught another melody.

As usual, I proceeded downhill to the river. Unlike usual, this year’s tour began at the brand-new Music City Center, which is making its debut as the home of the Fan Fair part of the fest. When I saw the exhibit hall’s layout map, I was concerned that there would be audio bleed between its various stages. Not to worry: The hall is so vast that you can’t hear any music being made from one side to the other.

At the Keep the Music Playing Stage, which is on the 8th Avenue side of the hall, Alana Springsteen was holding forth. In the middle of the hall on the Korean War Veterans Boulevard side of the venue, “Thinking Problem” David Ball was giving the fans a taste of true-blue country. This stage, by the way, has some of the best bookings of the fest. On Thursday, alone, it hosted Riders in the Sky, Buddy Jewell, Daryle Singletary, T.G. Sheppard, gospel’s Chuck Wagon Gang and bluegrass stars Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, in addition to Ball and others.
