The 2012 Canadian Country Music Association Awards shook Saskatoon tonight during one of the most star-studded events in Canadian country music. Dean Brody set the stage for an outstanding night of performances with his opening number, Canadian Girls; and it was clear from the start that it would be a night to remember for the 2012 nominee. With his most recent album, DIRT, recognized with awards earlier this weekend, Dean Brody received two 2012 Canadian Country Music Association Awards for Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year.
Johnny Reid took home the coveted Fan’s Choice Award, following his 2012 win for Top Selling Canadian Album of the Year. Carolyn Dawn Johnson went home with Female Artist of the Year and trio Hey Romeo took Group or Duo of the Year. Carolyn Dawn Johnson is thrilled to announce a homecoming, of sorts, as she opens for the Republic Nashville recording artist this August on the northeastern leg of McBride’s summer tour. Fans can look for Johnson to perform her hits, such as Complicated, as well as selections from her latest albums Love Rules. Canadian country artist Johnny Reid takes the stage at the General Motors Centre May 10. And he won’t be the only Canuck under the bright lights, with opening act Carolyn Dawn Johnson joining him on stage for a duet.
The Alberta-born Johnson describes Reid as a longtime friend. The pair recorded a duet, Baby I Know it, for Reid’s newest album, which they perform each night. She describes Reid’s energy on stage as infectious and says performing with him leaves a smile on her face. Those nights are often packed back-to-back with 29 shows in six weeks in what Johnson calls a potent tour.
“We’re both excited to play in Oshawa. There’s a great country (radio) station there, so there should be a lot of awesome fans and listeners,” she says. Read the rest of this entry »
